Project Description

The Roasterie coffee factory, café, and offices are located in an industrial strip surrounded by housing in a sleepy mid-town area. The Owner wanted to relocate three loading docks to the rear to make space for a café expansion. The challenge was unifying four existing buildings of all different aesthetics. We seized the opportunity to incorporate an Owner purchased DC-3 airplane into the design, as a central icon, tying all the buildings together and drawing attention to this low-key location to make the facility easy to spot.

The renovation and addition includes a café with seating for 80 persons, outdoor café seating, cupping room, office renovations, and a new event space with a catering kitchen developed from existing space. The added functions of space surround and offer views to the roasting of the coffee bean. Therefore, the central focus of the café expansion is the ‘BEAN’, a newly added barista bar.
