Project Description

Quinn Evans Architects led a multi-disciplined team in the complex expansion and renovation for the life support building and systems for the National Zoo’s seal and sea lion population. The design for the revitalized facility includes cutting-edge life support systems within multiple exhibit and holding pools - utilizing both salt and fresh water - with increased animal enrichment through the use of wave machines. The design evokes the costal environment of the Pacific Northwest and promotes an immersive visitor experience through a variety of viewing opportunities.
