We love our large, airy master bath with its luxurious, spa feeling. Having literally traveled more than a million miles over the years, we incorporated many high-end features from the many hotels we stayed in. We love the warm and relaxing feel derived from using wood cabinets, bamboo flooring, river rock accents, and lots of natural light.
On the southwest side are two sinks, a make-up vanity, Cambria countertops, a woven-patterned glass backsplash, large mirrors which camouflage two medicine cabinets, LED lighting, and plenty of storage in FSC Wenge cabinets. High windows provide privacy and tame the intense late afternoon sun. The FSC strand-bamboo flooring is comfortable, sustainable, and easy to clean.
On the northeast side, the center of attention is a MTI “Elise 2” freestanding “ofuro-style” soaking-tub, with river rock walls behind, and an Italian green-certified porcelain tile floor that resembles a tatami mat. Above the river rock, high interior windows provide natural light, which comes from the clerestory above the upstairs hallway. A Grohe “Veris” floor-mounted tub filler provides hot water from its own Rheem tankless electric water heater, so one never runs out of hot water.
To the right of the tub is a roomy (4‘ x 6‘) shower. Two walls are half-inch thick glass-enclosed panels, etched to about shoulder-height, and provide just the right balance of privacy and light. The other two walls and the shower floor have white river rock that is unique and adds texture and interest. Spacious shampoo and toe niches are convenient and utilitarian. The Grohe shower system allows separate control of temperature and volume.
To the left of the tub is an etched glass wall providing privacy to the lavatory area, with a Toto 1.28 gpf toilet with washlet, white porcelain tile floors, and a small FSC storage cabinet. Two Panasonic “Whispergreen” bath fans automatically provide ventilation as needed.
Our Master Bath is not only beautiful and comfortable, it is also durable, easy to clean, functional, and practical.
