Project DescriptionKebony has found a new home among the Turks and Caicos Islands in the form of a custom-built beach hut. Located on the northwest coast of the Providenciales Island, the beach hut is the first of its kind to sit on the shoreline of the Amanyara Resort, one of the world’s most premier vacation destinations.
The designers at Custom Beach Huts in Miami, Fla., worked in close collaboration with the resort to find a durable building material that would suit the resort’s aesthetics. Due to the hut’s tropical, beachfront location, the architects sought a material that could endure both the island climate and frequent beach erosion. Kebony’s 30-year rot and moisture damage warranty made it an early frontrunner for the project. With little to no maintenance necessary, the architects knew Kebony would not only withstand exposure to harsh weather conditions, it would also improve the hut’s aesthetics over time with the development of its silver patina.
Additionally, Kebony’s ability to maintain its dimensional stability when exposed to variations of moisture made it an ideal material for the project. The hut’s individual sections were built in Miami and shipped to the Amanyara Resort, where they were assembled over a three day period. Kebony’s resistance to shrinking and swelling made it easy for the architect’s to quickly install the structure on the beach.
