Project Description

The Columbus Circle Station rehabilitation organizes, renovates and restores this sprawling, multi-level subway station complex. Circular and oval elements at key entrances mark important station nodes, provide a sense of place, and facilitate way-finding for passengers. Landmark elements of the historic IRT Station were preserved, restored, and when necessary replicated. Site specific murals by Sol LeWitt, sponsored by Arts for Transit, grace the floors and walls of the rehabilitated station, and the rehabilitated station includes new elevators and entrances for accessibility as well as a retail galleria. The renovations were designed to allow the station to remain in operation throughout construction.
