Project Description

Built to replace an existing school, Clover Creek Elementary blends historical features with modern technology and green building techniques—and exemplifies the Bethel School District's (BSD's) strategy of using wood-frame construction to achieve both energy and cost objectives.

In 2011, the Bethel School District was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an ENERGY STAR Leader. Between 2004 and 2011, BSD reduced energy use by more than 7.6 million kilowatts and saved $4.3 million in utility costs—equivalent to the cost of electricity for 15 of the District’s elementary schools for one year. BSD also reports construction costs per square foot that are much lower than the average for the region; Clover Creek was built at a cost of $197/square foot, compared to the average cost of $248.12/square foot for an elementary school in Western Washington.
