The objective was to create an open space, light filled and airy Master Bathroom/Dressing Suite for a couple and yet provide privacy for each when toileting, bathing and dressing. This bathroom was designed, using natural elements, to achieve a modern “island” spa feel, have strong architectural character and evoke the utmost in relaxation.
The bathroom was constructed by transforming an unused media room, expanding it 10’ and installing windows and skylights. Natural elements were coupled with modern architectural details found in the cathedral ceilings, glass walls, stone floors and natural wood finishes. The floating beam creates a visual barrier to the 13’ cathedral ceilings while it’s rich dark stain contrasts with the ceiling’s lighter natural tones. The 6’ x 4’ suspended one-piece mirror, paneled in engineered bamboo, acts as both a privacy wall between his and her sink areas as well as a concealed medicine cabinet from within its side frames. The lighting design throughout the bathroom accommodates for both mood and tasks. The skylights and windows allow natural light to filter in and to imbue a soft glow off the wood stained cabinets. Even the shower is bathed in daylight from a light well above.
The bathroom suite affords both parties complete privacy in their individual dressing areas. Her toilet room is designed to be spacious enough as a private dressing room and his walk in closet is tucked off into a corner. His and her custom designed closets are paneled in rich chocolate stained woven woods. The oversized wet-room features both a dual head shower and a rainwater spout, as well as a soaking tub. It also functions as a steam room. Its 13’ reach, large corner windows, wood-like ceiling tiles, cobblestone floors and natural pebble walls gives the user the feeling of the outdoors.
This incredible master bathroom/dressing suite encompasses all the amenities of a modern island spa while providing the ultimate in privacy and relaxation.
