Project Description

Builder's Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist

This renovation project transformed an existing two-car garage into a pool/guest house. In order to engage and enliven the adjacent pool area, a 16’ wide sliding glass door system was inserted into the side of the building.

The main interior space was opened vertically by removing the existing ceiling joists and wrapping a slatted white oak wall surface up and across the vaulted ceiling. A slate-clad entertainment center was built into the wood wall, incorporating a flat screen TV, gas fireplace, stereo components, and game storage.

The new pool house is an extended and versatile living room for the family. It is a space that was designed to accommodate a variety of diverse activities, from a kids’ pool party in the morning to a cocktail party that same evening. A private guest suite is tucked in the back, and opens to a private view of fields beyond. The whole building was conceived as a place to ‘camp out’ during a future renovation of the adjacent main house.
