Project DescriptionPart of an $800 million, 80-acre, urban redevelopment effort, Ashland Commons is a new affordable, multi-family workforce housing apartment building located in East Baltimore. With 78 apartments, the units in the Ashland Commons building consist of large one, two, and three-bedroom units suitable for families. The building is replete with on site amenities including community/multi-purpose rooms with warming kitchens, computer stations, a fitness facility, and a study area for after-school activities. Outdoor amenities include a common courtyard, shared with the adjacent building, and the landscaped green areas behind the buildings.
Ashland Commons is part of the East Baltimore Development Initiative, a mixed–use urban redevelopment located north and west of Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine Campus. The challenge was to create attractive multifamily housing at the edge of the urban redevelopment.
Ashland Commons along with its sister, Parkview at Ashland an affordable senior housing apartment building, were conceived to replace the dilapidated row houses in this East Baltimore neighborhood. The wood frame apartment building provides a mix of units including one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and interior and exterior amenity spaces.
High insulation value, low VOC paints and sealants, panelized wood framing and white reflective roof are some of the sustainable features.
