Designer George Nelson built his interest in Japanese culture into his 1952 Miniature Chests—now re-issued for Herman Miller—by replicating the small, mobile storage chests called tansu popular in Japanese homes. The hand-fitted vertically arranged wood drawers and wood frame come with white or black metal pulls and an optional four-star pedestal base in metal, polished aluminum, white, or black. The chest is available with six or nine drawers, with accompanying pedestal heights at 26 1/8-inches and 43 ½-inches respectively. Herman Miller, 616.654.3000; www.hermanmiller.com.
