Through Oct. 30, Philadelphia is home to A Clean Break: Pop Up Neighborhood, an exhibition promoting clean development. The outdoor exhibit, which has a special focus on modular and prefabricated houses, is now open to the public for daily tours and viewing. A production of Philadelphia's Minima modern furniture showroom, A Clean Break's exhibits include full-scale houses and other architectural installations showing innovative urban infill, development, and sustainability solutions.
Examples of urban farming, transportation, environmentally friendly furniture, public art, and other high-design, low-waste products also are on display. Exhibiting architects are: Alchemy Architects of St. Paul, Minn.; Elemental of Santiago, Chile; Gans Studio & dArchitects of New York City; Interface Studio of Philadelphia; the University of Kansas' Studio 804 design/build program in Lawrence, Kan.; and Sustain Design/Altius Architecture of Toronto.
