Today the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the latest edition of its monthly employment report, which includes January 2015 data about the large "architectural and engineering services" sector, but gives very little insight about how smaller sectors like architecture are actually doing. In today's report, the BLS also released December's job growth data for the smaller sectors of architectural services, landscape architectural services, and engineering and drafting services. These numbers are preliminary and are subject to revisions in the coming months, but this release provides the first complete look at last year's monthly job growth for these industries.
Architecture added 300 jobs in December, which is slightly slower than the revised growth in November.
Landscape architecture lost 800 jobs in December, which means that the industry lost 1,300 jobs in the last two months of 2014.
Engineering and drafting services added 2,800 jobs in December. That's a slowing of growth from November, which was revised up from 4,200 jobs added to 5,500 jobs added.
