For those who draw inspiration from colors (whether seen in nature or walking down a city street) the blog WearPalettes offers a unique insight into translating hues from one setting—say a fashionista's outfit—to another. Daniel Pianetti, a graphic design student in Switzerland, started the blog in 2007 in collaboration with The Sartorialist to inspire readers' personal style. Fashion, architecture, and interior design and decorating have long been interwined, cross-pollinating and influencing each other and evolving into new modes of expression.
On WearPalettes, Pianetti distills the colors of an outfit—an olive coat and leopard-print scarf accented with a hit of brilliant violet, or a t-shirt of new-wave neons combined with shredded black jeans, for example—into often striking interior color palettes that could just as easily be applied to any other situation that calls for a unique marriage of colors.
The blog categorizes palettes by color. Clicking on a palette you like takes you to www.colourlovers.com, which identifies each color in the selected palette. You can download the palette as an image (if you create a free profile with ColourLovers), or as one of several file types that identify each hue (in the RGB color model, which can be translated into CMYK—some of which can then be translated to the Pantone color space) that was combined to create each color in the palette.
