Glass walls overhang a central courtyard, simultaneously creating openness and a sense of boundary. The studio tower (left side of image) overlooks a highway.

The drum-shaped fritted glass façade is a fitting landmark for a tough urban site bisected by two major highways. The cloistered organization opens to a street-level plaza and cafe, helping to reinvigorate the adjacent neighborhoods.

From their perch in the studio tower, artists work in full view of passersby on the highway below.

The project’s first-floor plan. The dorm corridors are single-loaded to encourage social interaction: Students must walk around the interior courtyard to get to their rooms. Art studios anchor one end of each floor.
