Prefab in New Orleans

Designed for the Barnes Family, who lost their first house in Katrina, Special No. 9 House holds a 2010 AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Project designation and LEED Platinum certification.

A south-facing trellis supports photovoltaic panels and extends up over the roof plane to shelter a deck.

Customization, like these decorative panels, can bolster sense of place and steer clients towards sustainable pre-fabrication.

A central hallway creates the home's dominant axis and the shotgun style living space favors sleeping quarters over common areas.

Hot air is drawn through the main living level and vented out while rainwater is collected on the roof and stored at ground level.

The house is anchored in clayish soil by 35-foot piers and sits at the center of a slightly trapezoidal lot.
