Cool Products From the Surfaces 2012 Show

Roman Cladding is a concrete wall tile system that will be a conversation piece in any house. Available in five modern-style colors, the product has one random repeating pattern that goes together like a puzzle. It can be used indoors or outdoors.

Dark and consistent, this select walnut flooring from WD Flooring offers a distinctive, upscale look. To minimize the sapwood variations, the company steams its walnut to create a more uniform and rich floor. The solid wood boards measure about 36 inches long.

Instead of cutting down perfectly good trees, Everitt & Schilling reclaims and salvages old barnwood and cabinet scraps to make its line of Re-Grained decorative wood tiles. Tiles are available in species such as alder, cherry, hickory, and walnut, and measure 2 inches by 6 inches, 2 inches by 2 inches, and 4 inches by 4 inches.

Pave de Paris from AMB Bois is an end-grain hardwood flooring imported from France. The pre-finished product can be installed with no nails or glue and instead uses a floating compression system. It comes in rubberwood, French oak, guatambu, iroko, smoked oak, and ashy oak.

Unlike some interior wall cladding, Finium's FriendlyWall panels are made from solid hardwood to give rooms a warm contemporary look. The company designed the panels with an innovative interlocking system that fits together and can be installed within hours. Walnut is shown here.

Laticrete International's Hydro Ban line of pre-sloped shower pans creates waterproof shower installations. Constructed of lightweight high-density polystyrene, each component features a waterproof coating that may be tiled over immediately and eliminates the need for a traditional mud bed.

Also part of Laticrete International's new Hydro Ban line is the latest entry in the linear drain category. The product is designed for bonded waterproofing installations using the manufacturer’s Hydro Ban waterproofing membrane. Featuring a low profile, the drain allows for the use of large format tiles and a single plane slope to the drain.

DuChateau Floors’ Heritage Timber Edition is a line of Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood flooring that replicates the patina of reclaimed distressed barn wood. Featuring a distressed surface of scrapes, nail holes, notches, and saw kerf marks, the European white oak planks measure 7 7/16 inches wide and are available in warm browns and weathered grays.

Similar in hardness to ipe, olive wood is Specified Components' soon-to-be released flooring. The wood is harvested in a manner that does not the harm the 300-year-old trees and is used to make engineered wood flooring measuring 3, 4, and 5 inches wide with a 6 millimeter-thick top layer. Various finishes are available.

BoleFloor says this is the world’s first manufactured hardwood flooring that is made with naturally curved lengths that follow a tree’s growth. As a result, the 9-foot-long solid wood boards utilize about 20 percent more of each sawn plank that traditional products. Plus, the curved lines in the finish floor are dramatic. Boards measure 5 inches to 12½ inches long and come in five species.

The 3iE from Warmup is a smart programmable thermostat that’s specifically designed for electric radiant-heated floors. Featuring a low profile and a sleek touchscreen, it is the only thermostat with Active Energy Management that automatically adjusts to changing conditions in a house, the company says.

If wood wall panels are too conventional, try Architectural Systems’ Eco-Dimensions panels that are made from pressed bamboo pulp. Measuring 18 inches by 18 inches, the lightweight panels can be installed with regular adhesive and can be painted in any color. Six silhouettes are available. .

Offering hassle-free installation, Norstone USA’s stone veneer panels measure 24 inches long so they go up faster. The company also offers ingenious corner units measuring 16 inches by 8 inches. Shown here in white, the line comes in four colors.
