Design students will be taking fabric off the chair and forming it into a structural display at the 2012 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York next weekend. Parsons The New School for Design undergrad and graduate level students from all disciplines are fabricating an installation that plays with the form and function of fabric as more than just a furniture or wall covering. Having experimented with various textiles all year, the participants selected a Cradle to Cradle certified fabric from Carnegie Fabrics called Xorel.

The resulting design is an overhead canopy produced with a rigid, paper-backed version of Xorel. The students designed the digitally printed pattern on the fabric as well as the folded pyramid modules that make up the canopy. The architectural installation will be on the floor at ICFF, which is open May 19-22.
