The HP-40 hybrid meets Energy Star requirements and offers an energy factor of 2.0, more than twice the energy efficiency of a standard storage water heater, the maker says. The HP-40 measures 21 inches in diameter, but weighs 10 pounds lighter and is 10 inches shorter than the original 50-gallon model, with an overall height of 65 1/2 inches. Dual-flush is fine, but if you want to show you're really serious about saving water, check out the new ultra-high-efficiency toilet that has only one flushing mode: 0.8 gallons of water per flush at all times. The WaterSense-labeled unit uses a technology that compresses the water in the bowl rather than the tank for an effective flush every time, the company says. 800.831.8383. www.niagaraconservation.com. –N.M.

The units include an Eco Monitor, which shows the user are resource-efficient their current selections are, and the washer features EcoBoost, which adjusts water temperatures and mechanical energy for efficient cleaning. According to the firm, the washer’s H2Low system senses the size of each load and can use 76 percent less water and 76 percent less energy compared to traditional top-loaders while offering more gentle cleaning. The Energy Star-qualified washer exceeds CEE Tier III specifications. www.whirlpool.com. –K.T.

The ceiling-mounted models, designed for 4- or 6-inch ducts, feature a new central mounting system for more installation flexibility. The units are designed to maintain their performance and quiet operation at both 0.1- and 0.25-inch water gauge (WG). The halls of the annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show are always lined with one eye-catching product after another. But these days, many homeowners are just as enamored by energy savings, water conservation, and resource efficiency as they are by the latest styles and finishes; the words “WaterSense,” “Energy Star,” and “recycled” are spoken almost as often as “chrome” and “contemporary.” Manufacturers continue to respond to the growing green movement with new products for the kitchen and the bath that meet the needs of eco-savvy consumers—without skimping on looks or functionality.
