the best architecture and design schools

For more than a decade, DesignIntelligence, a journal published by Greenway Communications, has ranked the best architecture and design schools in the nation. In that decade-plus, Harvard University's Graduate School of Design has ranked first in the master of architecture program list. But change is inevitable, and in the 2011 edition of America's Best Architecture & Design Schools the University of Michigan took the top spot in the master of architecture program category.

No such change has yet occurred in the undergraduate architecture program rankings, however. Cornell University's bachelor of architecture program maintains its top position for the sixth time in the past eight years.

The 2011 edition of America's Best Architecture & Design Schools offers rankings of the top 20 undergrad and graduate architecture schools, as well as the top 10 undergrad and graduate industrial design schools, interior design schools, and landscape architecture schools, and serves as a guide to those schools that are best preparing students in design, communication, and other skills. It also includes student satisfaction rankings for 35 architecture programs. DI's America's Best Architecture & Design Schools 2011 is available for $39.95 online at www.di.net/archschools/schools.html. --S.L.M.
