A Couple of Cantilevered Houses
|
Here are two houses based on the same, rather radical premise. Each
cantilevers out from a hillside site for approximately half its length.
The first, which I wrote about for the September/October issues of Custom Home and residential architect, is by the Boston firm Schwartz/Silver Architects (look under "Projects" for Tanglewood House 2). This one is by the Dutch architectural firm MVRDV.
Which do you prefer?
If
you would like to test drive the MVRDV project, which is located in
Suffolk, England, you can book it as a weekly vacation rental through
Living Architecture,
the organization that commissioned it. Tanglewood House 2 is a private
residence, so you'll need connections to spend time inside that one. But
wouldn't it be nice? --B.D.S.
