A Date with Solar Innovation
|
The Department of Energy (DOE) has just announced the dates for the 2011 Solar Decathlon—the fifth cycle of the competition that pits student teams against each other to see who can design and build the most cost-effective, energy-efficient, attractive, and comfortable solar-powered house.
The opening ceremony welcoming the 20 U.S. and international teams to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., will occur on Sept. 22, 2011, and the competition will run Sept. 23 – Oct. 2. During this time, the Solar Village on the National Mall will be open to the public for tours—when the houses aren't closed for performance evaluations and judging).
The 20 teams were announced in April this year, and include colleges and universities from Belgium, New Zealand, China, and Canada, as well as several U.S. schools that have not participated before. Read more about the 2011 Solar Decathlon, as well as past Decathlons, here.
