innovative housing conference starts tomorrow
|
Lawrence Scarpa, FAIA, will give a public keynote speech on July 21 at the inaugural Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute in Minneapolis. The Institute was the brainchild of Scarpa and former NEA design director Maurice Cox, who teamed with Enterprise Community Partners' Katie Swenson to make their idea a reality.
Enterprise's two-and-a-half day conference will unite an eight-member design resource team of invited architects, landscape architects, urban designers, green policy gurus, and housing finance experts with seven top affordable housing developers from around the country. Each developer will present a project that is still in the schematic design phase, and the rest of the group will contribute their ideas for the project. With attendees like Cox, Scarpa, David Baker, FAIA, Julie Eizenberg, AIA, and OLIN partner David Rubin, for example, creative design solutions are sure to abound.
The Institute will be "a great way to bring together talent from the design industry with developers of affordable housing," says Swenson, Enterprise's vice president of design initiatives."I think it's going to be an incredible dialogue back and forth."
