Star Architecture

Vanity Fair magazine surveyed big-name architects, teachers, and critics
to rank the
most significant structures of the past 30 years. Perhaps
unsurprisingly, Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, came
out on top, by a wide margin. The list also includes the Bird's Nest
Stadium, Beijing, by Herzog & de Meuron, the Seattle Central Library
(and two other buildings) by Rem Koolhaas, and Maya Lin's Vietnam
Veterans Memorial. Check out the slide
show.I'm not in love with all of the buildings here, but they make
an impressive collection, and it's useful to know what leaders in the
field consider the most important contributions of architecture's
current generation. --B.D.S.
