Re-Skinning Awards announced
|
Zerofootprint has announced the winners of its first annual Re-Skinning Awards, a
program that recognizes
... the most successful, holistic retrofitting projects of the
year. These
are projects that update older buildings to bring their carbon, energy,
and water performance to sustainable levels, improve their aesthetics,
and make them “smarter”.
Re-skinning is an apt term. It has seemed to me for a while that the
way to make existing buildings act like high performance new ones is to
start outside the existing shell. As radical retrofits become more
common it may well become a term of art, if not a household word.
Zerofootprint,
by the way, is a Toronto-based organization that describes itself as "a
socially responsible enterprise whose mission is to apply technology,
design and risk management to the massive reduction of our environmental
footprint." --Bruce D. Snider
