California’s AIA chapter is calling on architects who practice or who have done work in the state to submit projects to its newest competition. The Residential Design Awards program was conceived to celebrate the practice of residential architecture—a segment hit hard during the downturn—as the state moves toward economic recovery. Those interested can submit affordable housing, condominiums, mobile residences, single-family, and multifamily projects started after Jan. 1, 2007. The registration deadline is Sept. 5 and submissions are due Sept. 19.

Projects will be judged by architects, designers, and critics from California and Seattle, including: Mary Johnston, FAIA, Johnston Architects; Tom Kundig, FAIA, Olson Kundig Architects; Elizabeth Ranieri, FAIA, Kuth/Ranieri Architects; and Anni Tilt, AIA, Arkin Tilt Architects
